Top military officials have now received the go for planning on the counter on the extraterrestrial hypothesis.

“…Springer, a former professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point who has a doctorate in military history from Texas A&M University, said his superiors had authorized him to discuss Pentagon plans to counter an alien invasion.” Hypothesis-on-alien-life-gains-heft

It’s a scenario that has played out in several monthly science fiction magazines; at least one dedicated cable television station, and has been a motion picture industry main staple, for years – a complete extraterrestrial alien species that visit earth with uncertain outcome(s).

• There are more than 800 minor planets such as Sedna that have been found in the outer solar system.
  
• There have been telescopic observations of clouds of amino acids, which form the basis of proteins, observed in outer space.
  
• There are moons in the solar system composed entirely out of frozen methane an organic molecule made from carbon.
  
• The results of the Mars Viking missions have been discussed as testing positive for alien life as we know it – discussed in the primary litiature.
  

It may be a time currently for soul searching and a redefinition of who we are as a species in the cosmos and our mission in the staging of space travel.

Gearing Up For Mars

Every major news source has stories on the planet Mars and the journey there. Not only are there government projects involved, but at least two private companies Spacex, and Virgin Galactic would like to get involved. One company Spacex promises a Mars round trip ticket for 1/2 a million dollars. In San Francisco a modest house or condo is more than a million dollars. Any yokel could take out a second loan on their house and book a round trip to the planet Mars.  What would a layman do while visiting Mars. I could see a column forming for a highly popular news story: Top Ten Things To Do On Your Round Trip to Mars.

The question of: Life On Mars, is no longer relevant. As custodians of our solar system, what should we do upon reaching Mars? The first thing on my mind is: How would sound propagate on the surface of Mars – a mostly nitrogen based thin atmosphere? So  you plug in you Fender Twin – Mars version, and plug in the Stratocastor. What would the first music chord played on Mars be? In The Silmarillion (Tolkein) Tolkein states that the Universe was created with music chords.

Some one on a Virgin Galactic flight to Mars would play Starman by David Bowie. Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars. The possibilities are endless.

Let’s get down to brass tacks about this. Let’s go to the nearest star system right now. This of course discounts the fact that there may be a brown dwarf in our own solar system with it’s own planets. There are also 50 dwarf planets being cataloged (In our star system). Anyway we can see those on the way out. Throw everything into it now, forget about it, let’s do it now.

What I really want to know is: what will Katy Perry’s space suit look like? Does Victoria Secret make space suits? She could go like Star Trek and have the tunic look. She could be like all Star Wars as a Jedi, or Princess. There will be lot’s of silk involved, yards and yards of it, or very little. What if Katy Perry wears a thong in space? A bunch of guys are going to send her their flight suits to see if she can fit in them I am sure.

Here, Katy Perry is shown at the last Grammys winning several awards and all of our hearts.

I found out that at Virgin Galactic, there are 500 customers lined up to go on a space flight including Katy Perry.

The Planet Mars

The Planet Mars.

Our nearest neighboring planet is Mars. It has captured the imagination ever since humans first realized that planets were different from the stars. The weather is about the same as Artic or Antarctic conditions here on Earth.

Each successful visit to Mars with our technology has only raised more questions. One anomaly that I will use for an example, as there are many, is the one below.

This image from the panoramic camera on NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity shows a rock called “Chocolate Hills,” which the rover found and examined at the edge of a young crater called “Concepción.”

The rover used the tools on its robotic arm to examine the texture and composition of target areas on the rock with and without the dark coating. The rock is about the size of a loaf of bread. Initial analysis was inconclusive about whether the coating on the rock is material that melted during the impact event that dug the crater.

This view is presented in false color, which makes some differences between materials easier to see. It combines three separate images taken through filters admitting wavelengths of 750 nanometers, 530 nanometers and 430 nanometers. Opportunity took the image during the 2,147nd Martian day, or sol, of the rover’s mission on Mars (Feb. 6, 2010).

Anyone can plainly see that something is going on here. Clearly the object is petrified wood, or at the very least something extraordinarily interesting. The petrified wood hypothesis is the lowest on a hit list of red flags. This is like the OMG moment or WTF!

The colored glass filters used on the wavelengths are like the sensitivity of the cones and rods of the human eye. In other words – this is about like the color as you would see it on Mars.

No one says anything. No one does anything. A person should fly there immediately and examine this for archaeological significance, or at the minimum biological determinations.

What needs to be done is Terraformation. Archea survive in hostile environments. Picture the thermal hot springs at national parks with their different colored bacteria spread out.

Bacteria multiply in minutes and hours. The right kind of bacteria could transform Mars in days literally. Any disturbance of an expedition would likely contaminate Mars and start a chain reaction as it is. If we designed the introduction of organisms we could control the garden and create lots of prime research outposts there. It’s time to wake up and smell the coffee.

A new Earth-like planet has been found in the right zone to support life. When has that announcement ever been made? There has rarely if ever been an announcement that any of the planets found so far, the so-called exoplanets, have been suitable for life as we know it. The one announced recently is part of a Tri-Star system and is about twice the size of Earth. It sounds familiar: A Tri-Star system that has a planet about the size of Earth. The nearest star system is a Tri-Star system: The Alpha Centauri system. It is in all likelihood a good candidate for an Earth sized planet exactly as our own, made of the same stuff, and is exactly the same age. In fact the nearest star system may share materials with our own such as amino acid sequences.

Amino acids float around in space as the interstellar medium. There are clouds of amino acids in space all detectable by telescopes. One of the basic premises for life on other worlds is the fact that amino acid sequences are so universal. The only hitch about them is that they are the proper handedness that is like our own. There could be left handed or right handed sequences in the Universe where only one type can exist in any one area at one time. Since the handedness of these molecules is based upon the likelihood of some polarizing event eons ago: in all probability the handedness of the molecules of the nearest star would be exactly like our own. Recent articles indicate that beams from certain types of stars polarize molecules in space, and that our local neighborhood supports the same twist in molecules.

Why was the search for life on Mars, a planet in our system, so involved and why didn’t they just test straight-up for life right away? Despite the fact that Mars is our neighbor, it looks like Mars is a captured moon from one of the gas giants, or some artifact that remained after a collision with another solar system entirely. In fact there may be the case that our solar system is a binary system and that one of our twin stars is now rotating out there among the other stars in a huge orbit: bringing the case with it that Mars is a run-away object from an as yet undiscovered twin star to our own.

In any case the latest news is that at least 20 light years away there is a ternary star system with an Earth like planet that is about double the size of the Earth. The new planet is named GJ667Cc while the one that is closest is named Alpha Centauri. Looking straight down on the pinwheel of the galaxy we see that our planet has made ¼ of a rotation around the center of the galaxy in the habitable zone of the galaxy along with planet GJ667Cc, and the Alpha Centauri system since the formation. All three of our systems when seen as part of the galaxy are like neighbors – all formed the same way. In all likely hood in each of the systems there are things that are very similar in nature to one another.

Alpha Centauri is so close to our home star that there could be a situation that one of the Tri-Stars in the Alpha Centauri system is really our binary twin star – that’s how close we are to Alpha Centauri. I think that since we are so-close to our neighboring stars that we should get to know our neighbors a little better – after all, it’s probably in all likelihood that they are getting to know us better already. It also might be the case that in the 3 million year history of hominid evolution, one of the societies of technological hominids already made it to Alpha Centauri and planet GJ667Cc.

A U.S. Government agency, NASA, has released a recent press report indicating that one of its projects have been working with detecting truly extraterrestrial signals from the natural universe. Essentially a particle stream has been hitting the Earth from outside the solar system.

It would logically follow that since light from elsewhere can be detected, then there must be particles from somewhere else. However: this is counter intuitive. A steady stream of extrasolar particles has been hitting certain places in detectable locations.

The results: the contents of the alien particle stream are interesting.

The question remains: instead of going to the moon or Mars, places that we have been, why are we not trying to visit the nearby stars?

Looking for Extraterrestrials

After several Earth moon landings by manned missions, and several Earth moon probes and orbiters – the seemingly first scientific announcement of a research project making do with modest budgets to search the Earth’s moon for signs of extraterrestrials was made.

We should have an outpost on the edges of our solar system looking for Extraterrestrials. In a sense we have probes at the edges of solar system.

At the very least the Earth’s moon should have a regularly manned telescope, and military outpost on alert operated 24hrs a day looking for Extraterrestrials.

Mars a planet that has a climate described as arctic conditions is so ideal for a manned outpost that it is curious as to why there aren’t structures there right now mining away and looking for artifacts.

Off world fascination has gripped the mind of current events. A recent report initially seemed to indicate that a SETI signal may have been found. Upon further investigation it was found, perhaps not-to-be. Yet there will come a day when a SETI signal will be found.

The astronomers that have been working on a satellite designed to find Alien planets have their first Alien Signal. As any science student past the high school science class age and who has watched Star Wars, and Star Trek knows – Aliens are everywhere.

"These signals look similar to what we think might be produced from an extraterrestrial technology. They are narrow in frequency, much narrower than would be produced by any known astrophysical phenomena, and they drift in frequency with time, as we would expect because of the Doppler effect imposed by the relative motion of the transmitter and the receiving radio telescope."
