Aliens: Communication
“That’s just a movie…there are no aliens…” – anonymous.
At some point a scriptwriter has that pitch to the producer that his script about aliens is believable. Then the producer must convince the studio exec that his film about aliens is going to sell a million copies or win an award of such and such for whatever professional categories.
A pitch is made to a bank. There they are in suits, over a glass table. Some one brings a portfolio of drawings, or pictures and places them on a table. The producer is there and going to convince the bank that not only do aliens exist but that they will attack earth and that earth is in dire peril. Perhaps there is a drink, perhaps a few or even a few too many. Perhaps a government agent is present and even funding the movie or partially funding the project.
It happens. There have been many movies about aliens. Executives with MBAs loose sleep over every decision made about the movies about aliens. The producer losses sleep if the films are behind schedule or if the logic isn’t right.
Scientists haven’t been as imaginative but have tried somewhat on the topic of aliens. There are not too many scientists loosing sleep over the question of weather aliens will attack us or not – why?

Life originated in the oceans and fish began to explore land where eventually all land animals originated from one successful species of fish. We are all related to a single species of fish. The closest analogy to aliens would be insects who developed independently from a separate line but also became terrestrial. How do these two lines interact – the insects and animals? One is predatory over the other with little discourse.
Recently a few sharp people have been thinking about the subject of aliens and how to communicate with them. They imagine extensive communicational discourse over subjects of what look like Freudian psychology.
Perhaps aliens have a penchant for man flesh and want to mow us down like Orcs in the Lord of the Rings.
